Police officers demand meeting with the PM due to problems in the system
08.02.2010
The Trade Union Federation of the employees in the Ministry of Interior (MoI) sent an open letter to PM Boyko Borissov yesterday, asking for a meeting because of problems in the system. A copy of the document was handed over to Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov, to Chair of the Internal Security and Public Order Committee in the National Assembly, Atanas Atanasov, the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria. Police officers demand answers on 11 issues, stated in the letter, related mainly to their operations and the remuneration system. The address to PM Borissov was also motivated by his excellent knowledge of the problems of MoI and also by the "reluctance of the MoI management to conduct a real dialogue and to implement changes".
According to the Federation, the huge resource problems which MoI is facing have become a direct obstacle to the daily work of the police. In some divisions of the ministry in Sofia, there is not even printing paper. The letter states further that, while the professional and socio-economic situation of police officers continues to deteriorate, the management of MoI is exerting everyday pressure on trade union members by displacements, unjustified inspections and penalties.
Ivan Savov from the police trade union said for Darik radio that discontent among police employees escalated after the management of the ministry decided to stop the remuneration for specific working conditions. He did not exclude the possibility of new protests.
"The requests were submitted to the political management of the ministry and, in this case, you understand I am one of the officers," said for Klassa Chief Secretary of MoI, Kalin Georgiev.
